Children

The mission of Central Coast Funds for Children is to raise funds to help provide a hopeful pathway for children in need in San Luis Obispo County.

Central Coast Funds for Children (CCFC) is an outstanding non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in need of special services in San Luis Obispo County. Monies raised by CCFC are awarded in the form of grants to various agencies and organizations that provide for the basic needs of children in our county. These needs include food, clothing, medical and dental care, school supplies, therapy and guidance counseling, camp experiences, enrichment activities, and the arts. In 2018, we contributed to 34 local organizations totaling $84,000. We are proud to say that this is our 25th anniversary and over the course of those twenty-three years we have donated over $1,600,000!

CCFC is comprised of 35 women who volunteer over 3,400 hours per year on causes, including our two signature fundraising events, Garden of Giving and Season to Believe. CCFC volunteers also give their time to several important community events, including the Morro Bay Kite Festival (where we gave away over 500 kites), Children’s Day in the Plaza, Camp Reach for the Stars (a camp for children with cancer and their families), and DJ’s for PJ’s (collecting PJ’s with KJUG radio and CCFC members distributing to organizations assisting children in need). Also, one time per month members meet to make “Sunshine Sacks”. These sacks are filled with journals, pens, pencils or crayons, combs, brushes, tooth brushes, tooth paste, a stuffed animal, if age appropriate, personal hygiene products and other items. The sacks are then given to organizations such as Family Care Network or the Women’s Shelter for children that may have been taken out of the home or from school and placed in foster care. Often these children do not have any personal belongings with them and this sack gives them a sense of security knowing they have something that is theirs.

CCFC members meet monthly in one of the member’s home with the philosophy that the more money we raise, the more money to help children. There is not an office or paid staff to help keep the overhead down. Overhead for CCFC is approximately 5%. All money is raised through member dues, donations, both private and business, and the two major fundraisers. These funds are then distributed to organizations and agencies in San Luis Obispo County through a grant process. Grant applications are available on our website and are accepted until September 30. The grants are then reviewed by an appointed committee and awarded in December.
